The days have been busier for them, between Danny's heightened responsibilities at the IPD and Steve's decision to run for Council a second term. Sometimes, the only moments when they manage to locate one another are in bed, asleep, and then waking up in the morning to do it all over again. It might be a taste of what life would be like if they'd gone and done this back home, with work slipping to the forefront for a while until they managed to get their bearings.

It's why, when Danny suggests an early evening game of baseball, just the two of them, Steve doesn't hesitate - though what he sees when he finally gets there is enough to warrant some surprise, and maybe a little teasing. He's only seen Danny in a shirt and tie - and a t-shirt, more often, for sleeping - but he doesn't know what to say when he happens upon his husband wearing a pair of cargo pants - his cargo pants.

"Okay, I'm actually at a loss for words in this moment," he says, holding up a hand. "Did you have an aneurysm of your own when I wasn't looking?"

"Let me guess. A hundred squats and pull-ups?" Danny jokes with a smirk, but he lays a kiss on Steve's lips and indulges in leaning closer for a long moment, grateful for their proximity.

"For starters," Steve replies, grinning seconds before the space between them dwindles back down to barely anything at all. He gives Danny's hip a squeeze and lets the kiss linger a few more beats.

"I'm proud of you, you know," he adds. "Everything you're doing."

Danny waves that off dismissively. "Archie was already doing all this stuff. I just picked up the baton and kept running with it. Selfishly, even," he points out, "because I'm using my power to get the Academy up and running."

"But you've done a lot. Accomplished a lot," Steve points out, a proud smile still on his lips as he leans in to grab that waving hand, briefly squeezing it in his own.

"Just take a little praise, would you?"

"I'm not used to being in charge," Danny admits. Sure, one day he wanted to move up to being a Captain and running his own department, but Five-0 had come along and Steve had been in charge, no questions asked. Danny was a good second-in-command and loyal and he'd never try to pull a coup. "I mean, you, partner, you had the reigns."

"And now you've got them, and there's nothing wrong with that," Steve promises, trying to make it clear that he doesn't have a problem with Danny being the head of anything he chooses here. He'd known Danny could follow, but seeing him lead makes him happy too. "You could hold them later tonight too, if you wanted."

"And now you're getting kinky, nice," he notes with an appreciative laugh. "I should've called Catherine and asked for a run-down of all your naughty little sexual habits. It would've prepared me for this, at least a little."

"What makes you think she would've told you anything you didn't already know - or didn't know?" Steve asks, tilting his head down at Danny.

"Maybe there are some things I've only ever done with you, babe."

"Yeah, well, I kind of hope so," Danny says warily, making a crude gesture with his fingers to imply some of the stuff that they've done. "Otherwise Lieutenant Hot-Stuff has got some parts that you never really talked about in your post-game wrap-up."

"Okay, come on," Steve murmurs, gently closing his hands around Danny's. "There are definitely some things that I have only ever done with you. Do I need to remind you about one?" he asks, thumb smoothing over Danny's ring finger.

"You did marry me, yes," Danny agrees with a smug grin, nodding his head as he looks fondly at the ring on Steve's finger. "And hey, look at this, a couple months in and you and I still aren't divorced. I think that's incredible."

"Incredible that it's a couple months or that we've managed to go without killing each other?" Steve asks, although he's smiling as he gives Danny's hand a fond squeeze. "Come on. You didn't have any faith that this could work?"

"Incredible that we're not dead or divorced," he says pleasantly. "I mean, I'm just speaking from experience here. I have all the faith in the world, but faith doesn't count for much when your wife leaves you for no other reason than ... well, I still don't know, Steven."

"I know," Steve answers, his voice dropping to a softer register when Danny brings up the subject of Rachel.

"Well, we can count every day as a success. I don't think there's anything wrong with that."

"And if you ever get pissed at me, you have to tell me. You can't just make your angry-puppy face," Danny warns, seeing as how that's a legitimate concern in their day-to-day life.

"Alright, alright," Steve promises, with a small chuckle, his hands gliding to rest on Danny's shoulders as he gives them twin squeezes. "I have a face now, when I get angry? A face that isn't the aneurysm face?" That's a face he still doesn't know how to recognize he's making, either.

"It's when your eyes get this hurt puppy look," Danny explains, pressing his fingers into Steve's face like he can't explain it unless he gets good and close. "And then you get angry wrinkles. And then your mouth purses up like you've been sucking on lemons."

"You know I probably can't make a face like that on command," Steve replies, allowing his features to be maneuvered under Danny's fingertips like some kind of modifiable clay. "It has to be spur of the moment. Inspired by the moment, even."

Danny grins as he eases back and puts on his very best 'thinking' face, taking the time to really think about what might get that face out of Steve. "Okay, let's start with...I've thought about having an affair," he says, seeing if that'll do the damage.

Steve just looks at him for a long moment, lips moving to form the syllables to words his brain hasn't thought of yet as he squints, trying to figure out where this is coming from. "You're not serious, right?"

"No, but look at your face, babe," Danny admits with a slight snort, giving him a fond look and a kiss to his cheek. "Don't worry. The only person I've thought about having sex with is you. Well, and the occasional fantasy here and there, but I promise those are only in my head."

"Funny," Steve mutters, giving Danny a long look in return before he concedes and realizes that yes, apparently there is a face he's capable of making. He tips Danny's chin up with two fingers, gazing down at him. "Very funny," he echoes, voice low.

Danny's grinning like an idiot, tipping his face up into Steve's touch so he can get closer and nuzzle against his neck before placing a soft kiss on his lips. "I got this fantasy you can do, you know. You all Officer and a Gentleman with a white uniform, interrupting me at the IPD at the end of the day..."

"What, and I swoop in and carry you out of the office? How many times would I get smacked for attempting that now?" he asks, giving Danny a questioning look. "I bet it sounds pretty great as a fantasy, but carrying that out in reality..."

"Okay, maybe if I'm working from home and I want you to pick me up and take me from the one room to the other," he clarifies, because no, he doesn't need Steve to act like a caveman when there might be witnesses to it.
